BBC News story: Green Tea Supplements destroy a man’s liver.
He had been taking the green tea supplement for two to three months when he became ill. According to Jim’s medical record this is the presumed cause of his liver injury. “It was shocking because I’d only heard about the benefits,” remembers Jim. “I’d not heard about any problems.”
Drinking green tea in moderation has many well-established health benefits. However, the green tea extracts or green tea supplements can cause liver damage. This danger is also found in other types of herbal supplements. In general, you are better off getting your nutrition from food, than from supplements. Talk to your doctor before taking a vitamin or mineral supplement. Avoid herbal supplements and eat healthy foods instead.
